PDA- Interpol

I think I am sitting on the floor in the upstairs bathroom at home, it is late, I know that. I think I am looking for more toilet paper in the closet. It is one of those nights where you cant really get to sleep but you aren’t really trying either. The bridge is really beautiful. I move to the bath mat in front of the shower. I should get some sleep.

Winter Is Here- Dirty Projectors

I think I am near the beach. I realize that as many times as I’ve listened to this album and seen the song name, I dont know what it sounds like, it’s just a piece of the song. I click play.

Autumn Sweater- Yo La Tengo

It is the summer after my senior year, I am about to leave for college. I am in the car, after playing tennis with Wyatt, Kevin, and my sister. I get the car to beep by trying to shift without my foot on the brake and it syncs with the song so I keep doing it. I turn up the volume. We are all having fun but I know no one likes the song as much as I do and it’s a long song. I wait until it’s over before I take us all home.

363N3- King Krule

I am alone in my apartment, looking for new music when I should be doing homework.

Tundra/Desert- Modest Mouse

I am in Hawaii again, boogie boarding with my sister.

Life Like Weeds- Modest Mouse

It is winter break, of this year. I am at Mount Hood, with my family. It is my turn to sleep in the bed. I am really tired, and try to go to bed early, with my headphones in. I fall asleep before the fifth or sixth track, but wake up before the end of the album, during this song, and I cant go back to sleep.

Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset- Modest Mouse

I am on the airplane, flying to Hawaii with my family. I am in the middle seat, but I can see out the window. I wish that the intro chords would last forever and hate the second half of the song, though I will learn to appreciate it. There is a lot more I could write but not without breaching the singularity of the moment.

Obstacle 2- Interpol

I dont know where I am but that bass line sure feels mean, and the energy of this track hits me for the first time.

Song For Mahila- Yo La Tengo

I am in Alaska again, this time not last summer but the summer before my senior year, just after camp ended. I am with my family, we are staying at my aunt’s old house. My sister and I are sharing a room downstairs. It’s extra dark because they have blackout shades, since the sun is up for so long in the summer. My sister is asleep. I am on an air mattress on the floor, trying to stay up so I can keep listening.

Song Seven- Interpol

I am at the computer, on itunes, listening to samples. “That’s dumb, the last song is called “Song Seven” but it’s the eleventh song on the album.”
